The Boys’ Brigade officially sanctioned a Pre Junior Section in 1977. In many areas there had been such sections, but they were unofficial and were known locally by different names such as Pilot Jacks, Robins, Cabin Boys and Imps. These sections kept their names until 1982 when they all became known as "Anchor Boys’". The original, 1982, Boys’ uniform consisted of a red woollen jersey with BB cloth badge sewn on the left breast, and grey trousers or shorts. No hat was worn. A BB Buttonhole Badge could be worn when not in uniform.
Boys’ Brigade uniform is currently in a transition period between this uniform and a new uniform. A new uniform was approved at Brigade Council in 1999 and although many companies have changed over others are still using the older uniform. By 2006 all members will have to wear the new uniform. The new Anchor Boy uniform is a red Boys’ Brigade sweatshirt over a blue Boys’ Brigade polo shirt, plain dark trousers or shorts and dark footwear.
