Some variation to Boys Uniform when in a band
In 1886 a forage (pillbox) cap with an extra row of
braid (boys) was introduced and in 1888 a peaked cap with an extra row of
braid (Band Sergeants’) was used. These caps were discontinued in 1902.
In 1949 the use of the kilt for Boys in Pipe Bands was
approved.
In 1977, a rule was introduced allowing Drum-Majors to
wear the uniform of their rank with the addition of white gauntlets, a
sash could be worn, bearing the emblem of The Boys’ Brigade and Company,
Battalion or District designation only. Since the 1980's bands have been allowed to wear
a "Band Activity Dress" when appropriate "Where the
band is participating in special events outside normal Brigade
activities. Such band activity must be readily identifiable with The
Boys' Brigade."
